At the time it seemed like a dream move for Brazilian Star, Coutinho, when he swapped Merseyside for Spanish Giants Barcelona in 2018. But things haven’t gone as planned…
At the time of Barcelona’s swoop for the forward, he was thought of as Liverpool’s best player. Just the season prior to his move he scored 13 Premier League goals whilst laying on 7 assists in the process. Even the half season he played for Liverpool before his January move to Barca the playmaker hit 13 goal contributions.
Coutinho then moved for an eye watering £105 million, and it remained to be seen how Liverpool would adjust to him leaving. Since then Liverpool have been Champions League Runners Up and eventual Winners in 2019. The output of Countinho has been more than covered for by the signing of Mohamed Salah, who scored 32 goals in his first Premier League campaign. Which is the most by an individual in a 38 game season ever.
27-year-old Coutinho has had his say on his move away from Anfield:
I don’t look back. I took another path, and now I am on another journey, much like everyone else, I’m focused entirely – just like them – on reaching my dreams. I’m happy with what I did in the past, and now I can only look forward.
Coutinho’s time away hasn’t been without success however, he won 2 consecutive titles with Barcelona and now on loan at Bayern Munich he could challenge for a Bundesliga title to add to his honours list.
However the Brazilian’s time on the pitch has been limited this term, having only started 12 games. This hasn’t stunted his numbers however as he’s managed 6 goals and 6 assists in the league. But it remains to be seen whether the German Champions will extend his loan at the Allianz with reports linking him with a £77 Million move out of Barcelona.
Bayern do have an option to make the switch permanent at the end of the season but the likelihood of that happening is low. With the playmaker turning 28 in the summer he will be looking towards finding a permanent home where he can re-capture the form he showed prior to his move away from Liverpool.
