Moroccan playmaker Hakim Ziyech will join Chelsea in July in a deal worth £38m, it has been confirmed in a statement by the Dutch club.
Talks about a deal had been rumbling for the past week and Frank Lampard has today got his man and has until next season to work out his place in the Chelsea side.
The capture of Ziyech will be widely regarded as a very good signing after the attacking midfielder has been excellent during his time in the Netherlands. The 26-year-old began his Eredivisie career back in 2012 with Heerenveen where he stayed for 2 years before being picked up by FC Twente. Ziyech really kicked on here as he netted 30 goals in 68 games and earned his move to Ajax.
After arriving in the capital Ziyech really shone with his standout season coming in 2018/19 where he contributed to 29 goals in 29 games in the league alone, scoring 16 in the process, a career high.
Chelsea fans will understandably be worried about the transition from the Dutch league to the Premier League, but Ziyech’s Champions League numbers may alleviate some of that doubt. The Moroccan was part of the Ajax side that captured imagination as they got to the Semi Final in 2018/19.
The playmaker contributed to 6 goals as his side knocked out the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus and he hasn’t been short of form in this years tournament either. Ziyech has scored 3 and assisted 3 in 6 games.
Premier League fans have a lot to be excited about with this move as Ziyech is very entertaining to watch as he has extreme technical talent and will always look to create. He will also offer some rest for Chelsea’s young stars who have visibly fatigued after the heavy workload of the early season.
