Arsenal legend Sol Campbell had a huge blunder in his post game interview with Sky Sports, getting embarrassingly called out by the reporter for saying the wrong team name when he was giving some post match analysis.
Sol’s Southend side were battered 4-0 by Peterborough in League One and he got mixed up and said “Southampton” when taking about his players. The gaff went completely unnoticed by the former Gunners man until he was corrected by the Sky Sports reporter…
The interviewer waited for a pause in Campbell’s response before asking if he wanted to start the interview over. Campbell was completely unaware and confused by the interjection, replying “Why?”.
“because your team’s Southend”
It’s not the first time Sol has made a TV blunder. He was involved in punditry for the World Cup and when showing off his “expertise”, he was asked who he thought would win between Belgium and Brazil in the quarter final. He bafflingly replied: “I think France”…
Campbell’s Southend United side are now 13 points from safety in the third tier having now conceded 76 goals in total. Fans have voiced there frustration following Sol’s post match interview, not because of his blunder but because of the clear frustrations around signing new players.
So maybe we can understand why Sol’s despondency and slip up occurred in this interview out take. His mind is clearly on more important issues than his teams name.
